Welcome to Melon Made!

This is the inaugural (this year seems to have a theme, doesn't it?) edition of the Melon Made Newsletter. If you're receiving this, chances are you're a friend of family member, and I hope you'll forgive me sending you an unsolicited blast. Feel free to opt-out, I'll just stop sending you a Christmas Card.

Melon Made has been in the incubator for years, and only recently did it take on a real life. Documenting those things, places & humans that strike my fancy, I hope that Melon Made is a little ray of sunshine in your in-box and on your bookmarked list.

Expect a newsletter about once a month, and I hope you'll mosey on over to www.melonmade.com proper for a daily dose. Want down? Email me!

All my love,
Alma

RIITA IKONEN

The work if Riitta Ikonen is both surreal and hilarious. Her own words describe it best: “My work is concerned with the performance of images, through photography and costume design. Certain items, usually small and insignificant, excite me to the point where I have to wear them and then document that process. The super- garments I make open up new experiences. In my costumes tremendous things happen - to me and to the people I work with. Today I exploded an egg in the microwave. Next, I want to make an egg costume.” Read the full interview, and check out her stuff. Via Cool Hunting.

The lust for travel is a universal yearning - but I think it’s particularly magnified for the New Yorker, stuck right in the middle of the most traveled-to city. The smart people over at wejetset feel the same way - but they actually get on the plane. Check out their new City Notes feature.

When Winter hits NYC, I often think how nice it would be to have a little house somewhere just to get away. Breathe Inn seems like the next best thing - it’s like going to your fabulously stylish friend’s house in the country + room service and no hostess gift required. Ahhhh.

There’s always an excuse to accessorize, and why should transporting your media be any different? Found Mimobot while surfing for holiday gifts, and as far as USBs go, they’re the cutest I’ve seen. So cute in fact, that you can even buy yours a sweatshirt.
